been M.I.A. cus...

...all I wanna do is BANG BANG BANG! *click* kaChing! ... and take ur money...

seriously been MIA (missing in action) and stuck in front of a computer or class or lab working... working and working... But last weekend, went up to the City to get some yummy Zuppa and gelato in North Beach ;P YUM

this leather jacket IS DANGER. it smells like a bad ass biker chic. a small one at that too (It fits me, so my size which is a shortie), but nonetheless gotta be a bad ass. It smells like it's been drenched in smoke and beer. The 1999 punker in me wants to stud this bad boy and sew on a patch! but I will refrain for now.

leather seems to be all I want to wear. I altered to leather skirts for me and yuki which I'm dying to get a chance to wear (hook it up yuki! SD party! what what!) oka...nuff playing, back to work work work :*(

The outfit is from my 6th grade graduation dress ;) has many more shot and variations. (btw, I'm the bottom middle one (blurry pic, i know :/ )

Make their day.

I was getting ready to go for a late brunch with some friends in downtown, and while I was digging thought my lipstick bin, I found an old laura mercier cha-cha- orange lipstick. Reconsidering the old color, I applied them on to my lips without a spare moment. What a bright red!!!
Good drama dropping on my looks.
muah!

FALL is here!

Last weekend the boy and I went traveled to Seattle (for his cousin's wedding) and drove up to Vancouver.

When ever we fly, we always take the caltrain b/c it's the most convenient, but when we got back to the bay area on Monday night, it was FREEZING... I hadn't packed anything for cold weather, except one biker jacket. I was wearing a thin sweater and my vint handkerchief dress. So while we were waiting for the next train (a 30 min wait) I layered on the boy's flannel PJ's my only scarf and the biker jacket, lol ;) somehow, it came out looking okay !

So gals and gents, take out your fall clothes and start layering :) can't wait!

Going Onyx

Two weeks ago I went home to San Diego after a major exam :/ and met up with Yuki to go to Onyx (lounge/club). Since I had literally packed up in 5mins I didn't pack enough "night" pieces

.... so I had the lovely Miss Yuki come over to play dress up with what I had and what she was inspired to bring. After looking at all I texted her, Yuki liked the stripped tank + my make-shift black tube skirt (a black tank top worn as a skirt! lol) Well after wearing it, it felt toooo punky so I shifted through my luggage a bit more and found my fabulous Chanel shirt I thrifted a few months ago + the make-shift skirt + Yuki's blue tights + Yuki's ankle boots + a bazzilion chains and VOILA I had my outfit :) Oh, I can't for get, I dug out my pyramid belt from my punk rock years (def brought it back up to the bay :P).

Caffeinecat: I was really impressed with what she brought and combined together. The striped tank was getting too punky like an outfit that you might find in hot topic (no offense). When she put on the Chanel T-shirt, it Especially worked so well I was surprised! The blue tights looks bright in the photo but it actually looked like black with a hint of blue for reflection... I loved it!
On the other hand.. I was super stoked about the shiny leggings from members only. Although American Apparel did release the look last fall, we haven't seen much in San Diego yet. For the top, I threw on a second hand silver leopard tank with a pashmina I got in New York. It was a total American Apparel look which I took in delight. Shiny and smooth like a shamu.

HellzBellz & MOB Party at Keating

If you've heard of HellzBellz, yes, they were here in San Diego hosting a party at the Keating Hotel in Gaslamp. It was a long wait to get in but seeing Spinerella (salt 'n' peppa) was worth a wait. This is my first attempt for my shiny leggings, and yeah, I hid my booty. you hear salt 'n' peppa, they were all about the spandex and booty and I hid them. tsk tsk...
trust me I learned so I made it happen the next night at onyx. Sorry 90s.

Jeans that I just had to get.

Voila!! it was the last pair I saw since 3 days ago. close!! Girls, trust your instincts and always take advantage of return policies... period.

Suspended.

Hi. wow. my jeans did not look that blue when I wore them. anyhow, this is how I walked the streets in downtown over to urban outfitters today. I usually don't shop there but last sunday my friend and I decided to lurk in after brunch at cafe 222. ...and I found some black snug fit skinnys.. awesome deal.

I always thought the store was filled with over-priced trend gears but they've proved me wrong. But I DID see a girl grabbing lose-fit, color faded (not to mention super thin and temporary) tanks that were for sale for $58... they better be worth it, girl.

BOOTS!

In the previous entry showing, HEL-LOOKS: Fashion Street Snap of Helsinki, I really craved Dr. Martens... And look what happened.
I love it...I only wish my instant motivation applied everywhere else other than shopping. Well off to campus. bye!

DIY dress form tutorial

I started this dress form with the intention of getting help from my boyfriend... however it took so long to pre-cut the pieces of tape I ended up doing it all by myself because he passed out, lol!.... so it's possible to do this all by yourself, however having a helping hand would make it so much easier, but I got a good stretching out of my arms, :P

Materials:
- black garbage bag
- duct tape
- gummed paper tape, cut/ripped into 6-8 inch lengths
- sponge
- preparation time: 30minutes - 1hr
- taping time: 1-2hr depending on whether you have help or not

1) cut a neck hole and arm hole in the black garbage bag. Wrap an 1 inch wide length of duct tape below the bust line.

2) with another 1 inch wide length of duct tape, cross the strip over the chest and around your neck.

3) wrap another 1 inch wide length of paper tape around the narrowest part of your waist. Start placing short lengths of tape around neck area for stabilizing and starting everything off.

4) Place 6 inch length paper tape horizontally across the collar bone and chest area. Reinforce the horizontal strips with vertical strips.

5) Continue to past the waist to the hips.

6) Finishing off past the bum and mid-thigh.

7) I messed up cut up the front to get the cast off me, but I didn't have help to cut it up the back, which is what you should do.

Now paper tape up the cut area to reattach the two sides and VOILA, you have a dress form. Make end stops by using cardboard boxes in the shape of the neck, arm and bottom hole. You can fill the form with basting, newspaper, scraps of cloth, what have you. I had a mixture of scraps of cloths and newspaper. The cloth makes the form more heavy and stable. I also made a cover for the form to make it look a more presentable sitting in my living room, which took less than 10 minutes.

GOOD LUCK everyone, if you have questions feel free to ask me ;)

As tiny as I am. borrowing brother's shirt's the last thing I do... but the red shirt I'm wearing in this pictures just gotta be one of those well worth to snatch.

D.I.Y. personalized dress form

... I believe I told caffeinecat about my DIY dress form like a month ago and finally it's making its debut b/c well I STILL can't find the darn camera charger and haven't been able to take the last/final pictures of it... so camera phone action again, lol :P BUT HERE IT IS!!! DIY instructions will follow... sometime this week ;)

It's been immensely helpful with all my vintage alterations because I used to pin/sew clothing while I wore them, lol!

yes, yes it's a tad lumpy ( explanations later with the D.I.Y. tutorial) but it doesn't effect the overall function of the dress form :P

Chai Soda... was a Bad... Choice

and so are the Kanye Stunna Shades.

They don't look flattering,
the two opposites combined together to fulfill no purpose.

You Drink Chai Soda and all you get is a big ol' bloated Tummy from milk and soda and a sour mouth from milk.
You rock them shutter shades and all you get is trying to figure out all the blind spots while squinting to avoid sun light that gets in in between.

I just hope eventually there won't be Shutter hats, Bras or Shoes coming out any time soon. But I won't be surprised.

Helsinki Candid: HEL LOOKS

I forgot how I came across to this website but I think Street Snaps are always the cutest way to catch people looking cute. Makes (at least) me wanna believe you can walk around and spot people wearing the most unbelievable combinations of colors people can imagine. HEL LOOKS is one of the friendliest sites I like to stroll. Credits to Helsinki for the spirit. Where would I spot there people in the day time in SD?? BTW> I've been meaning to find colored Dr.Martens like the guy in this photo for myself. Any good websites to check?? Hmm.

camera phone action...

the boy & I cleaned the whole house and still I couldn't find the camera charger. I had vowed to stop using my camera phone, but I liked my outfit so much today that I just had to take a picture of it. Lately I've been seeing a few bloggers turning their zippered skirts into dresses by leaving the top slightly un-zipped. This neat trick immediately made me think of my elie tahari skirt I bought last fall. I love this skirt, because the shear layer has the same print as the silk under layer which gives it a great visual effect.

dress: elie tahari
braided rope leather belt: vint
military-inspired jacket: boy's diesel
flats: haurache's by unisa

been busy as a bee...

a sewing bee that is...For the last two weeks I've been working on my qualification exam, scheduled for Sept 3rd. A few hours a day, I would take a "break" from the reading/thinking/writing and work on my "projects", which include:
1) making a personalized dress form
2) altering the neck, waist and length of a purple leopard print dress (i swear it isn't as tacky as it sounds, actually quite gorgeous imo).
3) convert a tartan shirt into tartan paper bag skirt
4) convert a 80's poof dress into a skirt
5) convert a plain knee length pencil skirt into a mini zippered skirt inspired by A.wang F08

Boy have I done a lot! did i even have time to work on my proposal? lol I will have pictures up as SOON as i find my camera charger, doh!

come back soon to see my how-to guides for making your very own dress form and before&after shots of all my creations ;)

Creepers any one?

who wears them anymore? geez.

Aug 5, 2008

Boots. Starting this summer.

Do you remember how they came out with those J-Lo bootsfew years back?
My ex used to hate them but I was secretly curious. I wonder if he still thinks it's hideous.. But now he rocks plaid button up with some tapered denim and works at a fixed gear shop.
so bootie x4 everywhere. apparently it's not a season faux pas to be wearing them at this time. wear them and cherish them because even people in California are rocking them in the hot sun already.

Aug 4, 2008

just don't: altered shorts and inner pocket exposures.

High waisted shorts are one challenge that could come out with dramatically different results... shortened shorts with pockets hanging out from the hem is one thing that's probably won't come out as anything but a huge waste of time!! I mean I had few occasions when I ran in to someone who wasn't as bad as Chloe Sevigny here... but Chloe certainly had some strive to get something out of her cut-off jeans.. don't recycle mom-jeans for one thing. If you don't look like a beach girl, you just can't pull those off period. enough said.

FABSUGAR look of the day ;)

I check fabsugar regularly, as a matter of fact all the sugar pages because it's pretty broad in topic and light hearted entertainment. So this morning when I did my daily perusing, look what I found...

    finally...

... they arrived... boy's dockers that is...

it's no secret that i love men's clothes so when thesartorlialist depicted picture after picture of men in rolled beige pleated slacks, I wanted to get some to try this trend. My first instinct was to go to H&M, but the ones I found were so just way too over the edge baggy. So then my next step was to look through consignment stores in the boys section, no luck this time. last but not least, EBAY! and tadada, found a perfect pair that were slightly loose, pleated and tapered. Also, my JS zippered booties are making their debut ;) already in love <3

    What a weekend...

One of my friends is going back to Germany today, so we threw him a crazy dinner+club outing last sat. If you're ever in the City (san fran) and you happen to come on the 2nd or the 4th Sat of the month, you HAVE to hit up BOOTIESF.com . It's not a trendy place or a hipster place, but it's just good ol' fun with no inhibitions ;) Will get pictures up once i get them from his camera, but they're mostly of the boys we partied with humping each other, lol! and these are straight boys mind you, so even more HILARIOUS... anyhow, been way to busy with writing, mostly at home, so have been in jammies for almost a week, eeK! but today I ended that but can't decide which jacket to use. I'll probably use the white one for the day time and transition to the charcoal one when the sun sets ;)

Dress: from my 6th grade graduation! yes I still fit in it except it used to be past my knee. I really did grow!
White jacket: Anne Klein, thrifted with tags still attached, so lucky
Charcoal jacket: Christian Dior vintage, ebay
    shoes: ninewest peep-toe oxfords

    Some credits to my dada.

Although he currently is a gumpy-lookin golf-shop owning greasy 50 year old, he did have his stylish days when he was in his 20s too. I hear about his fashion legends of having an afro, laced up boots and pantalones.. undoubtfully sounding like a fashion catastrophe. but I did find some photos that prove this that I was over exadderating and misinterpreting... thank goodness. I don't hate him anymore, yay! This is just a picture of him in his college days performing in a soulrock band with his rider jacket back in 1975... I wonder why he didn't stick to this style... black leather rider jackets in the green fairway. that's badasssssssssse.

    Rodnik: Moscow Fashion

who woulda thought that 90s short mushroom bob-cut was so hot again? but it looks super assertive with the Rodnik dresses.. beautiful.

I'm curious about the deep pleated tulip skirt on the right... I got a similar kind at BCBG but tid bit longer which made my calves look super short!! you think wearing them shorter might resolve it or skank it? yay or nay? let me know what you think.

    Jul 20, 2008

first time wearing my cobalt blue flats...

Finally got my color fix !

since i can't wear anything too short for work... I'm stuck with rolling my walking/city/bermuda shorts... I'm getting a weird half leg tans *yuck*

long gray sweater (vint, dad's from the 80s), beige shorts (express), cobalt blue flats (nine west)

So I've had side-swept bangs for... oh about 7 years. Since my last hair cut I convinced myself that I should grow out my bangs completely. Well.. I got as far as below

.... almost there, about another 2 inches and my bangs would have been gone. But then this last week, I got the urge to have a bangs. So out came the scissors and inspired by Brigette Bardot's bangs .... or my interpretation for my face and hair type... I started chopping
    inspiration:

outcome: straight and side-swept ;) ... also excuse the wierd faces... i got bored :P
I still remember the time when I first learned about Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale (NAS). I was a junior in HS, and one of my best-girlfriends, Kara who was always a very classy dresser, was showing me all these items she just bought with her step-mother from the NAS. It was in the dead of summer, and she had just bought some killer booties and a leather jacket. my first impression was WTF, but then she told me the 411 about NAS. For those of you whom still don't really know about, the idea is GENIUS! Each summer, Nordstrom has it's sale which isn't like regular sales. They put FALL items on sale. Not from last season, but for the up-and-coming season. Isn't that mind blowing? Well it was for me. Since then, every July, I anticipate the upcoming NAS and peruse my closet to plan what I need to buy ;) The following are my potential purchases... I may buy them from NAS or from another "cheaper" source .

Now if only i had a spare $600 ... hmm eating nothing but ramen noodles for a whole month may be worth it! :P
